Bookclub

A bookclub for women with an unshakeable itch that there must be more to life ‘than this’.

Living in a patriarchal, consumer driven culture is often dangerous for women.

It causes disconnection,  over-stimulation, exhaustion, SuperMum syndrome, tall poppy syndrome, shame, guilt, breakdown, anger and misery.

The dominant culture teaches women particular messages about our worth and our place in the world. Most commonly, don’t be too good, be ‘tame’, be needed, look after others, don’t upset others, perfectly presented and controlled, have all your shit together. And, that we’re the object of a man’s desires.

Nowhere in that picture is WOMAN.

Women need connection to thrive.
And yet we live in a disconnected world

in a disconnected way.

Women need places to gather, as women, with women.
Ways to journey together.
Women need more than the oppression we live with daily.

All these pieces lead to some kind of internal ‘not rightness’.
Some kind of emptiness
apathy
or ‘the itch’
from the unseen
unacknowledged
unknown needs that aren’t being met.

This bookclub is about starting the scratch that itch.

My hope is that by creating a new paradigm of connection with other women where we unpack the REAL stuff of life (the dominant culture and it’s impact, reclaiming feminine power, working on social justice issues) we can begin to make meaningful shifts in our life to scratch and eradicate the itch.

Soooo we’ll unpack provocative reads, read books that support our awareness of social justice issues, support BIPOC authors, read feminist works (all books nominated and voted on by members) and then in the group share our main takeways, favourite frames, concepts we’re unsure about and the things we’re integrating, in discussion threads and on our twice monthly zoom calls (make as many or as little as you like).
